The Workshops
Planning and implementation of the L2M program is centered around a series of key Workshops which combine analysis/diagnostics, ideas and planning, and the beginning of ongoing collaborations which characterize a successful, internally-sustained L2M initiative. Workshops are typically hosted by the client’s assigned project lead(s), are facilitated by EVP staff,and make use of EVP’s extensive tool kit to help participants achieve high-quality, actionable results in a time-efficient manner.
EVP's approach to leading and facilitating workshops comes from years of hands-on experience, research, and trial and error on "what works".

Executive Workshop

Overview. This focus of this workshop is to demonstrate the need, benefits and strategic value of a Lab to Market Program. It is designed to obtain executive commitment commensurate with the opportunity or threat to the institution, including appropriate commitments of personal time and resources. This workshop will establish the needs, benefits, issues and challenges confronting the institution in its efforts to deliver on the mission and goals of its research program. The Lab to Market process begins in research and is only as effective as it supports the research mission.

Best Practices Workshop

Overview. The focus is on introducing the Best Practices Framework for the Lab to Market Process. Participants conduct self assessments, peer reviews, and issue definition & analysis, in arriving at a baseline to measure future improvement efforts. Sets of “best actions” are developed for execution. This workshop will be invaluable in communicating the importance of a responsive Lab to Market Program, identifying institutional barriers and constraints, and building a team committed to move forward.

Opportunity Workshop

Overview. This workshop investigates, inventories and assesses the potential value of an institution’s Intellectual Property and assets. Assets are classified and ranked using contemporary portfolio management practices base on individual Asset Valuations. This workshop will define the “Best Few” Opportunities that are the most attractive to successfully launch the Lab to Market Program. The Best Opportunity will be selected to demonstrate the value of the Innovation, Venture, Business Value and Go to Market Workshops.

Innovation Workshop

Overview. This workshop focuses on the importance of innovative thinking and action in the Lab to Market Process. The attributes of successful people and innovators are explored with the aim of unlocking innovation’s five secrets. Innovation workshops will be critical to bring together research investigators, portfolio managers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to demonstrate the value of an innovation in terms of its research goals, value impact and commercial viability.

Investment Workshop

Overview. This workshop is to develop an investment strategy and plan to mitigate risk by better managing investment information. Ideal investment guidelines for selected market segments are mapped to the research program assets to support asset placement decisions. This workshop provides the focal point for an institution to better manage its intellectual properties by clearly stating investment policies, guidelines, process requirements, performance metrics, and clearly delineated roles & responsibilities.

Venture Workshop

Overview. This workshop assesses the potential commercial and investment value of a selected asset. EVP’s Venture Assessment Guide addresses a comprehensive set of issues, factors and questions related to the commercial viability of a proposed investment. The Venture Playbook encapsulates the investment guidelines to map the proposed asset/venture against the “ideal” investment as outlined in the Investment Strategy & Plan. The Venture Playbook is ideal for presenting a venture to investors and calculating accretion scenarios.

This workshop is invaluable in understanding the overall value associated with a research innovation, the preferred pricing structure, the appropriate business model, and the crafting of a responsive and compelling value proposition.

Go-to-Market Workshop

Overview. This focus of this workshop is initiating the sales and marketing strategy with a primary goal on building profitable and sustainable revenue streams. Target customers are selected, business needs are assessed, relationship strategies are evaluated and sales plans executed. A Customer Playbook is prepared to communicate and demonstrate the value of a product or service to a prospective customer to affect a sale.
