This
step is often referred to as asset archaeology in that most
assets of an organization are unknown or are not supported by an accurate
inventory of property records. Thus, the approach taken to identify
assets must be taken with deliberate care and well thought out strategies
so as to avoid costly documentation efforts that do little more that
churn the organization. We have found that the best approaches are ones
that provide incentives to the individual researchers to bring forward
their ideas, inventions and innovations. As such, we have successfully
established Innovation programs that actually pay for innovative
ideas and inventions. This approach actually costs less when compared
to how most organizations go about identifying their best few
opportunities.
We conduct a series of Opportunity Workshops with the key innovators
to assess the opportunity and determine potential actions. Participating
in the Opportunity Workshops are a balanced team of scientific, business,
marketing, legal and technical personnel. Asset Profile and Valuation
Workbooks is prepared by the team to develop a discrete asset management
plan for each identified asset. |
